Cash aid of PM’s Welfare fund distributed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, April 25, 2021(BSS)- District Administration has started to distribute cash aid received from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare fund to the poor, destitute and day labourers who are facing hardship during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdul Matin distributed the financial aid among the poor who led their families through daily income at Gaibandha Raiway Station in the district on Saturday.

Abdul Matin said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allocated Taka 10.50 crore in favour of deputy commissioners of the country to provide assistance to the poor, distressed and insolvent people who have been affected due to the ongoing lockdown which was enforced by the government for containing the spread of coronavirus.

The government has imposed a nationwide limited scale lockdown for one week from April 5 as part of its move to contain the spike in both coronavirus infections and fatalities.

After the weeklong lockdown, the government enforced a fresh one-week lockdown with harsher measures from April 14 and later it was extended till April 28 midnight.

On April 18, the Prime Minister declared to provide financial assistance to some 36 lakh families who have been hit hard by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and recent natural disasters.

A total of 60 transgender and 30 platform day labourers known as collie received the financial aid from the DC. Each of them got Taka 500.

Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Md. Matlubour Rahman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Rafiul Alam and other officials of the district administration and media men were present on the occasion.
