Taskin frustrated at the behavior of the wicket

DHAKA, April 24, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed expressed his frustration at the behavior of the wicket, which continued to assist the batsmen even on the fourth day of the wicket when wicket tends to break.

After Bangladesh declared their first innings on 541-7, Sri Lanka batsmen batted without any trouble in the wicket of the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy and so far piled up 512-3.

Skipper Dimtuh Karunaratne was batting on 234 while Dhananjaya de Silva on 154 as the duo shared a record 322-run partnership for an undefeated fourth wicket standing, keeping Bangladesh wicket-less throughout the day four on Saturday.

With just one day of the Test being left, it was destined to be a draw unless any miracle happens on the final and day five tomorrow.

“The basic of Test cricket is to bowl consistently in an area. The length should be right and sometime you have to give surprise bouncer, which we did and created opportunity also. But unfortunately we couldn’t get any wicket because it was such a good batting track. There is nothing to do but to have patience in this kind of wicket,” Taskin said after the match.

“In Test cricket there should be some turn or the surface would be seaming. If there is turn, the spinner would come into action or in case of seaming condition, pacers will get advantage. If the condition would have been different, we could unleash different plan,” he added.

“So we expected a better wicket but nothing to do. We gathered some different experience in this wicket. So we are trying our best to understand how to bowl well here.

Taskin however believes this Test is going to be draw and they would have to be more focused if the wicket of second Test remain same.

“There is chance that the Test is going to be draw. But in cricket anything can happen. But if the wicket of the second Test remains same, we have to be more calculative and find the weaknesses of the batsmen,” he added.
