51 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 24, 2021 (BSS) – Fifty-one more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rapidly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 51 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in the division at the two COVID-19 laboratories today at the daily infection rate of 13.56 percent.

Among the 51 new patients diagnosed today, 28 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 28 new patients include 18 from Rangpur, two from Gaibandha, five from Kurigram and one each from Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari and Panchagarh districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 23 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 23 new patients include 18 from Dinajpur and five from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,723 as 51 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 17,723 patients stands at 4,599 in Rangpur, 825 in Panchagarh, 1,512 in Nilphamari, 1,037 in Lalmonirhat, 1,127 in Kurigram, 1,628 in Thakurgaon, 5,310 in Dinajpur and 1,685 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
