Abdul Matin Khasru’s JS seat announced vacant

DHAKA, April 22, 2021 (BSS) – Cumilla-5 (Burichanga-Brahmanpara) parliamentary seat has been announced vacant at the death of the lawmaker of this constituency Abdul Matin Khasru, also president of Supreme Court Bar Association and former law minister.

The announcement was made in a gazette notification signed by Senior Secretary of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Secretariat Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan on Wednesday.

As per the constitution, there is compulsion to hold by-elections to the parliamentary seat within 90 days if it falls vacant.

On April 14, Abdul Matin Khasru, also Awami League Presidium Member and valiant freedom fighter, passed away at the age of 71 while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

He was elected parliament member for five times from Cumilla-5 (Burichang-Brahmanpara) constituency and he was the member of parliament of the seat till his death.
