Taposh visits Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital to ensure COVID-19 treatment
DHAKA, April 22, 2021 (BSS)- Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh today inspected the Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital to make it suitable for the treatment of patients infected with coronavirus.
During the visit, he instructed the concerned authority to provide medical services to the people of Dhaka city who are affected with the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
Responding to a question from a reporter, Mayor Taposh said: “Today’s visit is to observe the preparatory activities of Dhaka Metropolitan General Hospital to ensure medical services to the people of Dhaka. We want that the people of Dhaka could get their medical services from here.”
“That is why we have completed the necessary infrastructure related development-activities here,” he added.
Due to the delay in getting other facilities related to the treatment of COVID-19, the hospital has not been able to start the treatment of COVID-19 patients yet, he said.
He hoped that all medical activities of Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital will start in next 10 days.
The mayor said that some manpower, including doctors and nurses, have been deployed, adding: “Now we will need a central oxygen supply management or plant. An intensive care unit will also need anesthetists with specialist doctors. We are talking to the health department. We hope to provide all the necessary accessories soon to this end.”
Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital Director Prakash Roy said that the hospital asked for 56 doctors (medical officers).
So far 18 have been posted and 16 doctors have joined, he said, adding that at the same time other 70 nurses were also asked for this hospital.
Some 30 nurses have already been provided and of which, 22 have joined, he added.
The central oxygen management or plant will be set up by next Sunday, he hoped.
Prakash Roy also hoped that the hospital would get intensive care unit specialists and medical specialists soon to start corona treatment in the next 7 to 10 days.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and chief health officer Brigadier General Dr Sharif Ahmed were also present, among others, on the occasion.
