COVID-19 cases reach 30,046 in Khulna

KHULNA, Apr 21, 2021 (BSS) –The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly reached 30,046 today due to continuous rise in the daily number of lethal virus infections in recent weeks in all ten districts of the division.

“The number of COVID-19 patients climbed to 30,046 with 184 new infections diagnosed after testing 250 samples on Wednesday at three COVID-19 Laboratories in the division,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS this noon.

“The daily infections rate crossed the 12 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last year and continues to rise in the division,” she said.

The health officials said the newly detected COVID-19 patients are six in Khulna, 43 in Jashore, 25 in Bagerhat , 20 in Kushtia, nine in Jhenidah, seven in Narail six in Chuadanga, five in Satkhira, four in Magura, three in Meherpur districts in the division.

Dr. Ferdousi said all the positive cases for COVID-19 have so far been brought under necessary treatment while 30,218 others are being monitored in isolation units in different hospitals under institutional supervision and another 26,984 were released.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID -19 patients are 8,649 are in Khulna, 6,022 in Jashore, 4,502 in Kushtia, 2,691 in Jhenaidah, 1,832 in
Chuadanga, 1,748 in Narail, 1242 in Satkhira, 1286 in Bagerhat, 1,187 in Magura and 887 in Meherpur districts, ” Dr. Ferdousi said.

“With the healing of 48 more infected patients, the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 26,583 with the recovery rate of 88.47 percent in Khulna division till today’s noon ,” she said.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana
said the number of total fatalities rose to 538 in the division with five more death were reported on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 538 fatalities stands at 137 in Khulna, 102 in Kushtia, 68 in Jashore, 50 in Jhenaidah, 49 in Chuadanga, 40 in Satkhira, 31 in Bagerhat, 23 in Magura, 21 in Narail and 17 in Meherpur districts in the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 30,046 COVID-19 positive cases now
stands at over 1.79 percent in the division,” Dr. Rasheda said.

Dr. Rasheda Sultana added that comprehensive steps have been taken to abide by the health safety guidelines and other rules, set by the government to prevent COVID-19 spread.
