City road expansion works progressing fast in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – Implementation works of a major road expansion project are progressing fast in the city despite the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic situation at present.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has been implementing the project for expansion and development of the road from Kolpona crossing to Talaimary crossing with an estimated cost of around Taka 164.19 crore.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton inspected the road development and inquired about progress of the works today asking all concerned to maintain standard.
The 2.25-kilometer road is being elevated to four-lane with drains and 2.20-meter wide footpaths on both sides of the road.
Already, a decorative footpath has been constructed on the southern side.
Mayor Liton said population density has gradually been increasing in the metropolis with the influx of huge city-bound people and multiplication of high-rise buildings.
Taking the issues into special consideration, the city corporation has taken steps to upgrade the city’s road and drainage system.
The city corporation has started implementing a mega project involving around Tk 3,000 crore for improving living and livelihood condition of its people.

Liton said the project titled “Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City” is being implemented in order to promote the city’s major need-based sectors which will contribute a lot towards taking the city to a new height.

Mayor Liton listed the around sixty-nine infrastructural development works to be implemented under the project that includes construction of six flyovers, 60 Bangabandhu Murals, central Shaheed Minar, 17 foot-over bridges and walkways besides water bodies.

He said 284.86-kilometer roads will be constructed with reconstruction of 186.36-kilometer and widening of other 30.56-kilometer roads.

Around 41.92-kilometer footpath, 62.07-kilometer walkways, 17 beautification infrastructures, 30 public toilets and four recreational parks will also be constructed, he said.

Besides, 292.34-kilometer tertiary drains, 59.33-kilometer secondary drains and 4.51-kilometer primary drains will be constructed, he added.
