RANGPUR, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – The government-run Rangpur Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) has discharged 1,000 under treatment coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients after their recovery in a year since its inception.

Talking to BSS, DCIH Superintendent Dr. SM Nurun Nabi said the hospital, an extended health care facility of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, started providing treatments to COVID-19 patients since its inauguration on April 19 last year.

“The DCIH is providing health services to the patients with a manpower capacity of around 122, including physicians, nurses and other staff with attaching special priority and taking care with utmost dedication,” he said.

The 100-bed DCIH has 90 general beds and a modernised intensive care unit (ICU) with 10 beds and 10 ventilators and a modernised high pressure central oxygen supply system.

A total of 1,159 infected patients were admitted to the facility, of them, 1,000 released after their recovery and 20 critically sick persons with multiple health complexities referred to Dhaka from April 19 last year to April 20 this year.

“However, 102 admitted infected patients (mostly aged between 65 and 85 years) died at the hospital with multiple complexities during the last one year,” Dr Nabi said.

Forty-one admitted patients were undergoing treatments, including 35 at general beds and six at ICU beds till April 20 at the facility.

Meanwhile, five newly infected patients were admitted to the DCIH and one died during the last 24 hours there raising the number of admitted patients to 1,164 till Wednesday.

“Considering the present deteriorating infection situation, the higher authorities concerned have decided to increase seat capacity at the DCIH to 150 by adding 50 more beds, including 10 ICU beds, to face the situation,” Dr Nabi added.

Talking to BSS, some recovered patients expressed satisfaction over excellent health services they received from the physicians, nurses and other staff at the DCIH and termed the hospital as a world class health service provider to the COVID-19 patients.

After being discharged from the DCIH on Monday, recovered patients Mita Begum, 50, and Marjina Begum, 55, said they got incomparable treatments and services from a well-organised group of dedicated physicians, nurses and other staff at the facility.

Recovered patients Moynul Islam, 55, and Babul Hossain, 33, were also discharged on Monday from the hospital after their recovery and highly valued the physicians, nurses and staff of the facility for their dedicated health services to all admitted patients.

Talking to BSS, Moslem Uddin, 85, of Badarganj upazila in Rangpur, said he was admitted to the DCIH on April 20 last year as the first coronavirus infected patient and discharged on April 29 last year from the facility after recovery.

“I received excellent treatment and care in the hospital. I will always remain thankful to physicians, nurses, staff and cleaners working there and will pray for them all the time, as they treated me like a close relative of theirs” the octogenarian said.
