COVID-19 cases speedily cross 17,500 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases speedily crossed the 17,500-mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate is rising fast and recovery rate of infected patients declining amid a rising casualty rate.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases quickly rose to 17,506 as 76 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 20.21 percent on Tuesday in the division.

“The infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 after remaining below the five percent mark for a few months and continues rising now hastily,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break-up of total 17,506 patients now stands at 4,515 in Rangpur, 822 in Panchagarh, 1,498 in Nilphamari, 1,032 in Lalmonirhat, 1,114 in Kurigram, 1,618 in Thakurgaon, 5,246 in Dinajpur and 1,661 in Gaibandha.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,22,131 collected samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 17,506 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.33 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients reached 16,126 with recovery of 46 more patients on Tuesday at the average recovery rate of 92.12 percent.

Among the recovered patients, 4,114 of Rangpur, 784 of Panchagarh, 1,421 of Nilphamari, 973 of Lalmonirhat, 1,019 of Kurigram, 1,502 of Thakurgaon, 4,882 of Dinajpur and 1,491 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 334 while three more deaths were reported from Dinajpur in the division on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 77 in Rangpur, 119 in Dinajpur, 35 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 12 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.91 percent in the division,” he said.
Among the total 17,506 infected patients, 88 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 18 critical patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 16,126 patients and 334 deaths while 994 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,01,737 people of the division were put in institutional isolation or home quarantines, and of them, 96,881 released till Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 5,90,471, including 3,54,363 male and 2,36,108 female, with inoculation of 1,766 more people with the first dose of the jab on Monday in the division.

“The number of second dose recipients rose to 1,56,416, including 1,05,154 male and 51,262 female, with vaccination of 12,730 more people with the second dose jab on Monday,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu suggested everyone to abide by the health directives for containing the quickly rising infection rate.
