Two held with 15.50-kg ganja in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged drug traders and seized 15.50 kilograms of smuggled ganja and a mini truck from Kadamtala Bazar (Mirbag) area in Kawnia upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrested are Md Jewel Rana, 28, and Md Shahjada Mian, 23, of different villages in Kurigram district.

“On a tip-off, an operational team of the RAB-13 from its Rangpur battalion headquarters searched a truck in Kadamtala Bazar (Mirbag) area and arrested the drug traders with ganja, three mobile phone sets and cash money,” a press release said today.

The RAB members also seized the truck from the spot, it added.

During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they had been involved in trafficking and trading drugs to different parts across the country after purchasing those from the frontier areas for a long time.

“After filing a case against the arrested drug traders in this connection, the elite force handed them over to Kawnia Police Station,” the release said, adding that efforts were on to nab the other absconding associates of the arrested persons.
