COVID-19 cases reach 29,862 in Khulna

KHULNA, April 20, 2021 (BSS) – The number of COVID-19 cases has surged to 29,862 today due to continuous rise in the daily number of the lethal virus infections in recent weeks in all ten districts of the division.

“The number of patients climbed to 29,862 with 219 new infections reported after testing 350 samples on Tuesday at three COVID-19 laboratories in the division,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS this noon.

The health officials said the newly detected COVID-19 patients are 95 in Jashore, 75 in Khulna, 16 in Kushtia, eight in Bagerhat , seven in Jhenaidah, five in Narail four each in Chuadanga and Magura, two in Meherpur and three in Satkhira district in the division.

Dr. Ferdousi said all the positive cases for COVID-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 30,034 others are being monitored in isolation units in different hospitals under institutional supervision and another 26,934 were released.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 8,587 in Khulna, 5,979 in Jashore, 4,482 in Kushtia, 2,682 in Jhenaidah, 1,826 in Chuadanga, 1,741 in Narail, 1237 in Satkhira, 1261 in Bagerhat, 1,183 in Magura and 884 in Meherpur districts,” Dr. Ferdousi said.

“With the healing of 143 more infected patients, the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 26,535 with the recovery rate of 88.86 percent in Khulna division till today’s noon,” she said.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 535 in the division with five more deaths reported on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 535 fatalities stands at 135 in Khulna, 102 in Kushtia, 68 in Jashore, 49 in Jhenaidah, 49 in Chuadanga, 40 in Satkhira, 31 in Bagerhat, 23 in Magura, 21 in Narail and 17 in Meherpur districts in the division.

“The average casualty rate among all COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.79 percent in the division,” Dr. Rasheda said.

Among the total 29,862 coronavirus infected persons, 1,2613 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 26,535 have recovered and 535 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division.

“Since the beginning from March 10, 2020 a total of 73,064 people were put in quarantine and of them, 71,816 released and 3,633 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in Khulna division,” she further said, adding that 39 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 36 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till today’s noon.

Dr. Rasheda Sultana added that comprehensive steps have been taken to inspire the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread and provide health services to the infected patients to face the situation.
