8 die, 347 more test positive for Covid-19 in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 20, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 347 people have been tested positive for coronavirus after testing 1,056 samples in the last 24 hours at eight COVID-19 laboratories in the district.

According to the hospital sources, the infection rate is 32.30 percent during the period.

Among the infection patients 263 are from Chattogram city and 84 from different upazilas of the district, the sources added.

Meanwhile, a total of eight patients died in the last 24 hours only in Chattogram district. This is the highest death in a single day in the district since the onset of the corona pandemic in the country.

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 472, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

“Among the reported fatalities, 350 were the residents of the port city and the rest 122 were from different upazilas of the district,” he said, adding that the number of COVID-19 cases speedily rose to 47,574 in Chattogram district where the infection and causality rate continues rising hurriedly again in recent weeks.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend again and recovery rate declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of the COVID-19 Dr Rabbi told BSS today.

Among the total 47,574 coronavirus infected people, 38,188 are the residents of the port city and the rest 9,386 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district, he continued.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 36,460 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 77 more patients on Monday,” the health official said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 76.64.

A total of 1,422 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, he mentioned.
