COVID-19 cases reach 17,367 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 19, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly reached 17,367 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hastily consistently during the last one month.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rapidly rose to 17,367 as 73 more patients were reported after testing 380 samples at the infection rate of 19.21 percent on Sunday in the division.

“The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last and continues rising in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

The district-wise break-up of total patients now stands at 4,459 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,489 in Nilphamari, 1,025 in Lalmonirhat, 1,100 in Kurigram, 1,614 in Thakurgaon, 5,213 in Dinajpur and 1,647 in Gaibandha.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,21,372 collected samples were tested in the division till Sunday, and of them, 17,367 were found covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.31 percent.

At the same time, the total number of healed patients reached 16,053 with recovery of 32 more patients on Sunday at the average recovery rate of 92.43 percent in the division.
Among the total recovered patients, 4,097 of Rangpur, 783 of Panchagarh, 1,405 of Nilphamari, 967 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,499 of Thakurgaon, 4,799 of Dinajpur and 1,491 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 329 with one more death reported from Rangpur on Sunday.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 77 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.89 percent in the division,” he said.
Among the total 17,367 infected patients, 95 are undergoing treatments at isolation units including nine critical patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 16,053 patients and 329 deaths while 941 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,87,224 citizens, including 3,52,394 male and 2,34,830 female, got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccines till Sunday in the division.

Of them, 1,29,288 citizens, including 87,753 male and 41,535 female who got the first dose of the jabs at least two months ago, were inoculated with the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine till Sunday in the division.

“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,01,200 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 96,526 released till Monday morning,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu has suggested people to strictly abide by the health directives to contain the rapidly rising infection rate.
