69 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 18, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty-nine more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a quickly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 69 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 18.35 percent.

Among the 69 new patients diagnosed today, 42 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 42 new patients include 32 from Rangpur, four each from Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat and one each from Kurigram and Nilphamari districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

On the other hand, 27 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 27 new patients include 24 from Dinajpur, two from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:20 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,363 as 69 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 17,363 patients stands at 4,463 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,487 in Nilphamari, 1,025 in Lalmonirhat, 1,099 in Kurigram, 1,614 in Thakurgaon, 5,212 in Dinajpur and 1,643 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
