65 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 17, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty-five more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a swiftly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 65 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 17.28 percent.

Among the 65 new patients diagnosed today, 36 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 36 new patients include 18 from Rangpur, six from Gaibandha, five from Kurigram, four from Lalmonirhat, two from Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

On the other hand, 29 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 29 new patients include 23 from Dinajpur and three each from Nilphamari and Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 8 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,293 as 65 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 17,293 patients stands at 4,434 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,484 in Nilphamari, 1,021 in Lalmonirhat, 1,097 in Kurigram, 1,611 in Thakurgaon, 5,190 in Dinajpur and 1,636 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
