COVID-19 cases cross 17,200 in Rangpur division
RANGPUR, April 17, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases speedily crossed 17,200-mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hastily amid declining recovery rate during the last one month.
Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases quickly rose to 17,228 as 58 more people were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 15.45 percent on Friday in all eight districts of the division.
“The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 and continues rising consistently in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.
“The district-wise break-up of 17,228 patients stands at 4,416 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,480 in Nilphamari, 1,017 in Lalmonirhat, 1,092 in Kurigram, 1,608 in Thakurgaon, 5,165 in Dinajpur and 1,630 in Gaibandha,” Dr Siddiqui added.
Since the beginning, a total of 1,20,616 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 17,228 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.28 percent.
At the same time, the total number of healed patients reached 15,998 with recovery of 11 more patients on Friday at the average recovery rate of 92.86 percent.
The 15,998 recovered patients included 4,078 of Rangpur, 782 of Panchagarh, 1,399 of Nilphamari, 967 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,498 of Thakurgaon, 4,771 of Dinajpur and 1,491 of Gaibandha districts.
Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 328 with four more deaths reported on Wednesday.
The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 76 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 21 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat..
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.90 percent in the division,” he said.
Among the total 17,228 infected patients, 92 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including nine critical patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,998 patients and 328 deaths while 854 remaining in home isolation across the division.
Meanwhile, the total number of citizens who got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine rose to 5,84,241, including 3,50,348 male and 2,33,863 female, with inoculation of more 1,006 people with the first dose on Thursday in the division.
“At the same time, the number of the second dose recipients rose to 92,111, including 63,905 male and 28,206 female, with vaccination of 17,183 more people with the second dose of the jabs on Thursday in the division,” Dr Ali added.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to strictly abide by the health directives to contain the rapidly rising infection rate.
