Covid-19 cases reach 29,536 with 225 new in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 16, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 225 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in all eight districts of the division in the last 24 hours till Thursday evening, climbing the number of infections to 29,536.

The new daily infection figure shows a significant upward compared to the previous day’s figure of 176, said the health department sources.

Among the infected patients, 25,577 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 134 new recoveries found during the time, sources said.

A total of 3,324 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for COVID-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 7,249 were kept in isolation units of hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 6,251 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 162 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 142 others were released in the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 433 including 271 in Bogura and 60 in Rajshahi with two more fatalities reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 49 were detected in Bogura, followed by 45 in Rajshahi city, 37 in Naogaon, 34 in Natore, 29 in Joypurhat, 14 in Pabna, 11 in Chapainawabganj and six in Sirajganj districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 7,440 in Rajshahi including 5,882 in its city, 900 in Chapainawabganj, 1,836 in Naogaon, 1,443 in Natore, 1,527 in Joypurhat, 11,173 in Bogura, 3,138 in Sirajganj and 2,079 in Pabna.

A total of 68,915 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 66,765 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.
On the other hand, a total of 98,818 people received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines in the city and all eight districts under the division till Thursday since the countrywide second dose vaccination programme began on April 8.

Of them, 22,091 people including 7,358 females took the second jab on Thursday, said Dr Habibul Talukder.

He also said 2,222 including 592 females received vaccines in Rajshahi city and 1,403 people including 479 females in Rajshahi district, 1,284 including 380 females in Chapainawabganj, 3,084 including 1,005 females in Natore and 4,117 people including 1,358 females in Naogaon have been inoculated.

Besides, a total of 2,377 people including 800 females got vaccines in Pabna, 2,561 including 990 females in Sirajganj, 3,907 including 1,357 females in Bogura and 1,192 including 397 females in Joypurhat received the vaccines today, he added.

Meanwhile, a total of 6,40,508 people have been vaccinated with the first dose in all eight districts of the division till Thursday since the countrywide vaccination programme began on February 7.

Of them, 1,524 people including 584 females were inoculated on the day, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder.
