COVID-19 situation: 17,170 infected in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 16, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 17,170 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rangpur division where the infection rate is rapidly rising now.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases hastily rose to 17,170 as 75 more patients were reported after testing 377 samples at the infection rate of 19.89 percent on Thursday in the division.

“The coronavirus infection rate continues rising fast amid a declining recovery rate during the last one month,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,20,240 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Thursday, and of them, 17,170 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.28 percent.

“The district-wise break up of 17,170 patients stands at 4,394 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,471 in Nilphamari, 1,017 in Lalmonirhat, 1,092 in Kurigram, 1,604 in Thakurgaon, 5,149 in Dinajpur and 1,623 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of total recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,987 with the healing of 61 more infected people on Thursday in the division.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 93.11 percent in the division.

“The 15,987 recovered patients include 4,078 of Rangpur, 782 of Panchagarh, 1,392 of Nilphamari, 967 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,498 of Thakurgaon, 4,767 of Dinajpur and 1,491 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 324 with no more deaths reported from anywhere in the division on Thursday.

he district-wise break up of the 324 fatalities stands at 74 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 19 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.89 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 17,170 COVID-19 patients, 88 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including nine at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,987 patients and 324 deaths while 817 remaining in home isolations across the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,00,446 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 96,102 released till Friday morning.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,84,241 citizens, including 3,50,348 male and 2,33,863 female, got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines till Thursday in the division.

Of them, 92,111 citizens, including 63,905 male and 28,206 female, who got the first dose of the vaccines at least two months ago, were inoculated with the second dose of the jabs till Thursday in the division.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to strictly abide by the health directives for containing the rising COVID-19 infection rate.
