78 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 15, 2021 (BSS) – Seventy-eight more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising swiftly rising in recent weeks.

Health officials said 78 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 20.74 percent.

Among the 78 new patients diagnosed today, 45 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 45 new patients include 26 from Rangpur, 12 from Gaibandha, five from Kurigram and two from Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

On the other hand, 33 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 33 new patients include 24 from Dinajpur, two from Thakurgaon and seven from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,173 as 78 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 17,173 patients stands at 4,399 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,471 in Nilphamari, 1,017 in Lalmonirhat, 1,093 in Kurigram, 1,602 in Thakurgaon, 5,150 in Dinajpur and 1,621 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
