RANGPUR, April 15, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly reached 17.095 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hastily in the last one month.
Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rapidly rose to 17,095 as 50 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 13.30 percent on Wednesday in the division.
“The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last and continues rising in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.
“The district-wise break up of 17,095 patients stands at 4,373 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,464 in Nilphamari, 1,015 in Lalmonirhat, 1,088 in Kurigram, 1,600 in Thakurgaon, 5,126 in Dinajpur and 1,609 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said
Since the beginning, a total of 1,19,863 collected samples were tested in the division till Wednesday, and of them, 17,095 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.26 percent.
At the same time, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,926 with recovery of 35 more patients on Wednesday at the average recovery rate of 93.16 percent in the division.
The 15,926 recovered patients include 4,062 of Rangpur, 782 of Panchagarh, 1,391 of Nilphamari, 963 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,497 of Thakurgaon, 4,758 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 324 with one more death reported from Kurigram in the division on Wednesday.
The district-wise break up of the 324 fatalities stands at 74 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 19 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.90 percent in the division,” he said.
Among the total 17,095 infected patients, 88 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,926 patients and 324 deaths while 801 remaining in home isolation across the division.
Meanwhile, a total of 5,83,235 citizens, including 3,49,744 male and 2,33,491 female, got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines till Tuesday in the division.
Of them, 74,928 citizens, including 52,380 male and 22,548 female, who got the first dose of the vaccines at least two months ago, were inoculated with the second dose in the division.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,00,192 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 95,993 released till Thursday morning.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu has suggested people to strictly abide by the health directives to contain the rapidly rising infection rate.
