52 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 14, 2021 (BSS) – Fifty-two more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a promptly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 52 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 13.83 percent.

Among the 52 new patients diagnosed today, 33 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 33 new patients include 17 from Rangpur, six from Gaibandha, five from Kurigram, four from Lalmonirhat and one from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

On the other hand, 19 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 19 new patients include 17 from Dinajpur and one each from Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply reached 17,097 as 52 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 17,097 patients stands at 4,374 in Rangpur, 820 in Panchagarh, 1,464 in Nilphamari, 1,016 in Lalmonirhat, 1,088 in Kurigram, 1,600 in Thakurgaon, 5,126 in Dinajpur and 1,609 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
