Pahela Baishakh celebrated at DU with symbolic ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’

DHAKA, April 14, 2021 (BSS) – The Dhaka University authorities today celebrated the Bengali New Year “Pahela Baishakh- 1428′ on the campus through organising a short and symbolic Mangal Shobhajatra considering the worsening situation of the deadly Covid-19.

The symbolic Mangal Shobhajatra, featuring various masks and symbols made by the artists of the faculty, was organised on the premises of university’s fine arts faculty following health safety guidelines and other rules and maintaining social distancing, said a press release.

State Minister for Cultural affairs KM Khalid and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman led the symbolic Mangal Shobhajatra.

“The Mangal Shobhajatra is part of the world heritage. Due to the current worsening pandemic situation, it was not possible to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh in a festive atmosphere this year.

“We hope that we will be able to celebrate the Bengali New Year in future as before,” said KM Khalid.

Later, the state minister thanked the university authorities and the Faculty of Fine Arts for organising this symbolic programme.

Greeting the teachers, students, officials and employees of the university on happy Bengali New Year, the VC said that the colorful festival and tradition of welcoming the Bengali New Year is non-communal, liberal and humane which is taken place for years.
