MANIKGANJ, April 14, 2021(BSS) – The Food Friendly Programme (FFP), a popular initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been continuing in all seven upazilas of the district from the month of March.

Under the programme, a total of 52,390 listed poor families of the district are getting the opportunity of buying rice at Taka 10.00 per kg afte showing their cards issued by respective union council committees.

The Office of the District Controller of Food said a total of 125 dealers were appointed, two from each union for distribution of rice among 52,390 listed poor families of the district.

DC of Food office also said the list of beneficiaries was made by a selection board headed by Chairmen of the respective unions duely recommended by the upazila committees.

Each of the card holders are getting 30-Kg of rice per month and that programme would be continued up to the end of April, the sources added.

Riyad Kamal Roni, district controller of Food, said he has been visiting the shop of the dealers regularly and asked the food officials concerned and the dealers also to sell rice to the poor properly without any irregularities.

Talking to BSS, he said ‘poor families led by women, particularly widows, divorced or abandoned and children are being given priority, according to the guidelines’.

“The fair price rice selling at Taka 10 per kilogram began from 2017-18 fiscal year (FY) and it is continuing till now which is a blessing for ultra-poor people. The government wants to provide food support to the extreme poor families during the lean period so that they do not suffer from a food crisis,” said the district controller of Food.

Abdul Gafur, an ultra poor day labour of Nayachar village under Baniajuri Union of Ghior upazila, said when taking rice from his dealer at Nali Bazar, ‘I’m happy to get rice at the lowest cost which is very much helping for us during our hard day. This programme should be extended for more time, he added.
