COVID-19 cases rapidly cross 17,000 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 14, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly crossed the 17,000 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hastily almost daily during the last one month.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily climbed to 17,045 as 56 more patients were reported after testing 381 samples at the daily infection rate of 14.70 percent on Tuesday in the division.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend amid a declining recovery rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.
The district-wise break up of 17,045 patients stands at 4,357 in Rangpur, 819 in Panchagarh, 1,463 in Nilphamari, 1,012 in Lalmonirhat, 1,083 in Kurigram, 1,599 in Thakurgaon, 5,109 in Dinajpur and 1,603 in Gaibandha of the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,19,487 collected samples were tested in the division till Tuesday, and of them, 17,045 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 14.27 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,891 with recovery of 16 more patients on Tuesday at the average recovery rate of 93.23 percent in the division.

“The 15,891 recovered patients include 4,062 of Rangpur, 782 of Panchagarh, 1,371 of Nilphamari, 963 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,496 of Thakurgaon, 4,744 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 323 with no death reported on Tuesday from anywhere in Rangpur division.

The district-wise break up of the 323 fatalities stands at 74 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 16 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 19 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.89 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 17,045 infected patients, 88 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 10 critical patients at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,891 patients and 323 deaths while 794 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,83,235 registered citizens, including 3,49,744 male and 2,33,491 female, got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines with inoculation of more 2,801 people on Tuesday.

Of them, 74,928 citizens, including 52,380 male and 22,548 female, who got the first dose of the vaccines at least two months ago, were inoculated with the second dose till Tuesday in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the second dose recipient 74,928 citizens stands at 13,912 in Rangpur, 8,683 in Panchagarh, 11,023 in Nilphamari, 4,305 in Lalmonirhat, 6,580 in Kurigram, 7,342 in Thakurgaon, 15,591 in Dinajpur and 7,492 in Gaibandha,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said everyone must abide by the health directives to check the hastily rising infection rate.
