55 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 12, 2021 (BSS) – Fifty-five more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a promptly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said 55 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of all eight districts in Rangpur division at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 14.63 percent.

Among the 55 new patients diagnosed today, 23 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 23 new patients include 13 from Rangpur, three each from Kurigram and Gaibandha and four from Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS.

On the other hand, 32 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 32 new patients include 28 from Dinajpur and two each from Nilphamari and Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS tonight that the number of COVID-19 patients sharply rose to 16,986 as 55 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 16,986 patients stands at 4,340 in Rangpur, 815 in Panchagarh, 1,458 in Nilphamari, 1,009 in Lalmonirhat, 1,074 in Kurigram, 1,595 in Thakurgaon, 5,104 in Dinajpur and 1,591 in Gaibandha,” Dr Siddiqui added.
