10 killed, many injured in bus accident in India

NEW DELHI, July 18, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least 10 people were killed and
many others injured Thursday after a bus they were aboard skidded off the
mountainous road and fell into a gorge in northern Indian state of
Uttarakhand, police said.

The accident took place near Suryadhar in Tehri, 115 km east of Dehradun,
the capital city of Uttarakhand.

“Today in a tragic road accident, a Uttarakhand Transport Corporation bus
carrying passengers fell into a 250-meter gorge here,” a police official
posted in control room Tehri told Xinhua via telephone. “Ten people were
killed and around 15 are injured.”

According to the official, the critically injured six people were airlifted
to a health institute in Uttarkashi and others were provided treatment at a
local medical facility.

Following the accident, locals informed police, who along with disaster
response force personnel rushed to the spot to remove injured to the hospital
and retrieve bodies from the gorge.

Police have registered a case and initiated investigations into the
accident.

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra S. Rawat has expressed grief over
deaths in the accident and ordered officials to provide treatment to the
injured.
