64 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 11, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty-four more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a promptly rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 64 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 17.02 percent.

Among the 64 new patients diagnosed today, 26 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 26 new patients include 22 from Rangpur, three from Gaibandha and one from Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS. On the other hand, 38 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today. “The 38 new patients include 30 from Dinajpur, six from Nilphamari and two from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:25 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients sharply rose to 16,924 as 64 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 16,924 patients stands at 4,328 in Rangpur, 814 in Panchagarh, 1,456 in Nilphamari, 1,005 in Lalmonirhat, 1,071 in Kurigram, 1,588 in Thakurgaon, 5,076 in Dinajpur and 1,586 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.
