5-storey building tilts in Ctg, residents evacuated

CHATTOGRAM, April 11, 2021 (BSS) – A five-storey building tilted in the city’s Enayet Bazar Goalpara area on Saturday night, forcing the authorities concerned to evacuate the building.

Being informed, police, city corporation officials, fire service men rushed to the spot and evacuated the building and shifted its all residents to safer places to avert any incident, Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Thana told BSS.

Electricity, gas and water supply lines were disconnected from the building and residents adjacent to the building were asked to evacuate their residents immediately apprehending danger, the OC said.

The five storied building owned by one Kartik Ghosh, was built 35 years ago, Nezam added.

Kartik Ghosh, along with his five brothers used to live in the building.

Locals said that the building was tilted at about 10:30 pm and police, city corporation authorities and fire service authorities started rescue operation after that and declared the building abandoned.

The concerned authorities declared the building abandoned, risky and blocked the entrance of the building with Bamboo as no one can enter it.

The authority will take necessary action by Sunday evening after detecting the fault, fire service sources said.
