14,683 more get second dose of COVID-19 vaccines in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 10, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 14,683 more citizens were inoculated with the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines today raising the number of second dose recipients to 22,678 in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the total of 22,678 second dose recipient citizens, including 16,980 male and 5,698 female of the division, previously got the first dose of the vaccines two months ago.

“Earlier, inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccines as the second dose began on Thursday alongside continuation of the first dose in the division,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali told BSS.

The district-wise break-up of the second dose recipient 22,678 citizens stands at 4,031 in Rangpur, 3,307 in Panchagarh, 3,237 in Nilphamari, 884 Lalmonirhat, 2,027 Kurigram, 2,047 in Thakurgaon, 4,839 in Dinajpur and 2,306 in Gaibandha of the division.

Meanwhile, a total 1,586 registered citizens, including 922 male and 664 female, were inoculated with the first dose of the jabs today in the division.

“The total number of citizens who got the first dose of the vaccines now rose to 5,75,983, including 3,45,562 male and 2,30,421 female, with inoculation of more 1,586 people today in the division,” Dr Ali said.

The district-wise break-up of the total first dose recipient 5,75,983 citizens stands at 1,65,682 in Rangpur, 42,308 in Panchagarh, 73,363 in Nilphamari, 36,327 in Lalmonirhat, 44,802 in Kurigram, 47,729 in Thakurgaon, 1,05,292 in Dinajpur and 60,480 in Gaibandha.

Citizens can get the second dose of the vaccines after two months since taking the first dose and receiving an SMS or bringing the vaccine card, a photocopy of the vaccine card and a national identity card.

After taking the second dose today at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH), local journalists Sharifuzzaman Bulu and Farhaduzzaman Faruk told BSS that they are feeling normal without side effects.

They also thanked the RpMCH authorities for conducting the first and second dose of the vaccination programme simultaneously in an orderly manner.

“I took the second dose today after taking the first dose at RpMCH on February 10 last. Everyone should take the vaccines twice as per guidelines of the government to strengthen immunity against the deadly coronavirus,” Bulu added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said everyone must abide by the health directives even after taking the first and second doses of the vaccines.
