61 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 10, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty-one more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a speedily rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 61 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 16.22 percent.

Among the 61 new patients diagnosed today, 34 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 34 new patients include 23 from Rangpur, six from Kurigram, two each from Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat and one from Panchagarh districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

On the other hand, 27 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 27 new patients include 22 from Dinajpur, three from Nilphamari and two from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:10 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients sharply rose to 16,795 as 61 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,868 patients stands at 4,307 in Rangpur, 815 in Panchagarh, 1,450 in Nilphamari, 1,004 in Lalmonirhat, 1,071 in Kurigram, 1,582 in Thakurgaon, 5,046 in Dinajpur and 1,583 in Gaibandha of the division,” he added.
