Rajshahi’s Emon clinches singles title in Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Tennis

RAJSHAHI, April 9, 2021 (BSS)- Rajshahi’s Emon clinched the men’s singles title of tennis event in Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games 2021 at Advocate Abdus Salam Tennis Complex in Rajshahi yesterday.

Emon defeated Rubel Hossain of Madaripur by 6-3, 7-5 sets in the final match on the closing day of the week-long tournament.

Besides, Biplob of Dhaka Gulshan Club bagged the bronze defeating Kawsar Ali of National Tennis Complex by 6-4, 6-3 sets in the place-deciding match.

Apart from this, Ranjan Ram of International Club and Dipu Lal of Nordic Club pair won gold in the men’s doubles event final beating Amol Roy of Dhaka Engineers Club and Jewel Rana of National Tennis Complex pair by 7-5, 6-2 sets in the final.

Besides, Farhad and Roman pair of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan finished third defeating Rumon and Tinku pair of Rajshahi by 6-4, 6-1 sets in the place-deciding match in this event.

On Wednesday, Ranjan Ram and Afrana Islam Prity couple has clinched the mixed doubles title beating Amol Roy and Susmita Sen couple by 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 sets.

Roman and Suborna duo got bronze medals in the mixed event defeating Sohan and Tasnim duo by 6-3, 6-1 sets.

Earlier on Monday, Zerin Sultana clinched the championship in women singles defeating Susmita Sen by 7-6, (7-3), 6-2 sets, while Afrana Islam bagged the third position outplaying Raika 6-0, 6-2 set in the event.

On the other hand, Ishita Afroz and Zerin Sultana pair clinched the women’s doubles championship defeating Rinvi and Sumona pair on Saturday last.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten accompanied by General Secretary of the complex Ehsanul Huda Dulu and Tournament Director Muhammd Khashru distributed trophies among the winners.

Some 124 players including 25 females from different parts of the country took part in five events of the tournament held from April 2 to 9.

Bangladesh Olympic Association and Bangladesh Tennis Federation jointly hosted the tennis events of Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games 2021 here.
