GAMES-CHAPAL-INTERVIEW

‘Successes won’t come if you don’t take up challenges’

DHAKA, April 8, 2021 (BSS) – Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh were on the rise when the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games was rolled onto the ground.

Therefore there was apprehension whether the Games will continue. However, the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) was able to continue the Games under the astute direction and advice of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed, treasurer of the BOA and member secretary of the media committee of Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games, expressed his satisfaction in winning the challenges amid a difficult situation.

Q: Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games is being held in a very unfavorable environment. Now the Games is in the last stage. How challenging was such an event?

Answer: Actually everything is challenging. If you do not take up the challenge, you will not succeed in anything. We have tried to adhere to the hygiene rules as much as possible. Games have been organized with utmost care. So far no problems have occurred. There is one day left and hopefully we will be able to finish it nicely tomorrow. That will be good for us.

Q: What is the biggest achievement in this event according to you?

Answer: It seems to me that a number of new players have emerged in different disciplines, who, I think, may be able to represent Bangladesh in future.

Q: What was the message to the federation officials-athletes about fitness in adverse conditions?

Answer: The point is – it is a matter for the federations to look into. If our federation is aware of these, especially in terms of fitness and health, then I think it is beautiful. I think every federation has paid attention to that.

Q: Is there any dissatisfaction with the games?
Answer: There is no dissatisfaction. As much as I have succeeded amid the current situation, it is a great success. Because we have taken a challenge and run the Games. In fact, we should not be dissatisfied with the situation in which the game is taking place.

Q: How cooperative the government was in organizing the Games?
Answer: There was enough cooperation from the government. It would not have been possible to organize the games without the cooperation of the government. They have helped and cooperated hundred percent.

Q: In which areas you need help from the government for the development of sports in the future?
Answer: This is Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games and we are expecting that the government would extend its hand of further cooperation in future to organize it smoothly.

Q: Any message to the athletes-officials?
Answer: My request will be to everyone. If we follow the rules of health properly, we can be good in all aspects. Sending everyone home in a healthy way at the end of the games is one of the keys to our success.

The only request to the players is to increase their awareness in this situation. To keep oneself safe in Covid-19 mayhem, one has to follow all the advice given by the government.

Q: Do you have anything more to say?
Answer: I will say – healthy body, fresh mind. We will play all the time. One thing is – if we can keep ourselves healthy, we will play sports. We can play. We can also organize sports.
