Government establishes good governance in fertilizer management for farmers : Razzaque

DHAKA, April 08, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, MP today said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is farmer-friendly and under her leadership, the present government has established good governance in fertilizer management to ensure better agricultural production in the country.

“Farmers do not have to suffer for fertilizer during the current government as the government is ensuring adequate supply of fertilizers in the country. The government is reducing the prices of fertilizers in four phases and bringing fertilizer to the doorsteps of farmers. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is farmer-friendly and farmer-loving. Under her leadership, the present government has established good governance in fertilizer management in the country,” he said.

The farmers no longer have to suffer for fertilizer, the most important ingredient in agricultural production, he said, adding that however, the BNP failed to manage this fertilizer supply for the farmers twice when BNP was in power in 1991-96 and 2001-06.

He made the remarks at a meeting of the National Coordination and Advisory Committee on Fertilizers online from the conference room of the ministry at the secretariat here.

At the meeting, the demand for chemical fertilizers in the fiscal year 2021-22 has been fixed at a total of 66 lakh metric tons for intensive and expanded cultivation. Of this, 26 lakh tonnes are urea, 7 lakh tonnes Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), 16 lakh 50 thousand tonnes Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer and 7 lakh 50 thousand metric tonnes Muriate of Potash (MoP).

With Committee Convener Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque in the chair, the virtual meeting was attended, among others, by Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, MP, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, MP Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on ministry of agriculture Matia Chowdhury, MP and lawmakers Md Abdul Hai and Joaherul Islam.
