Cargo-vessel responsible for Shitalakkhya launch capsize seized

NARAYANGANJ, Apr 8, 2021 (BSS) – Cargo ship SKL-3, which pushed the ‘MV Sabit Al Hasan’ launch causing it’s capsize in the Shitalakkhya River on Sunday was seized today from Gazaria in Munshiganj by the Pagla Station Coast Guards’ here.

Also, 14 people were detained during the seizure of the vessel.

Narayanganj Naval Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident saying that, “The ship has been handed over to the naval police. We are bringing it to Narayanganj.”

He said legal action will be taken after checking whether the detainees are the crews or members of the ship.

On the evening of April 4, shortly after leaving the Narayanganj terminal, Munshiganj bound launch ‘MV Sabit Al Hasan’ sank as the cargo ship ‘SKL-3’ pushed it from behind. A total of 34 people died in the accident.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) filled a case in this regard the next day.
