Number of daily deliveries reaches 1.60 lakh through e commerce

DHAKA, April 8, 2021 (BSS) – The number of deliveries through e-commerce has now reached more than 1.60 lakh on average per day while the digital transaction through e-commerce reached Taka 16,000 crore over the last 8 months in 2020.

Out of this amount, essential commodities worth Taka 3,000 crore were sold through e commerce.

This information was revealed at a press conference by the e Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) today.

The association leaders highlighted various aspects of the e commerce business during this pandemic situation as well as listed their various initiatives.

President of e-CAB Shomi Kaiser said that although the growth of e commerce business was hovering around 25 percent over the last few years, but it witnessed a whopping 70 to 80 percent growth last year, especially the sale of food items witnessed a staggering 300 percent growth.

She mentioned that around 50,000 new employments were created in this e commerce sector over the last eight months.

Shomi said that like the previous year, the government has issued notification to ensure safe goods and services delivery through online while the deadline for the e commerce delivery has been extended till 12 midnight from 6:00 pm under the present circumstances.

The association leaders also informed that a policy conference titled “Rural to Global” will be organized on April 11 on behalf of e-CAB.
