63 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 8, 2021 (BSS) – Sixty-three more people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection today in Rangpur division showing a rising trend of the infection rate again in recent weeks.

Health officials said 63 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 16.76 percent.

Among the 63 new patients diagnosed today, 39 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 39 new patients include 20 from Rangpur, 13 from Gaibandha, four from Lalmonirhat and one each from Nilphamari and Dinajpur districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

The rest 24 new patients were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 24 new patients include 18 from Dinajpur and three each from Nilphamari and Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:30 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,728 as 63 new positive cases were reported today in the division.

The district-wise break up of total 16,728 patients stands at 4,271 in Rangpur, 812 in Panchagarh, 1,444 in Nilphamari, 996 in Lalmonirhat, 1,059 in Kurigram, 1,578 in Thakurgaon, 4,998 in Dinajpur and 1,570 in Gaibandha of the division.
