Covid-19 cases reach 27,857 with 201 new in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 8, 2021(BSS) – A total of 201 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in seven districts of the division in the last 24 hours till Wednesday, climbing the number of infections to 27,857.

The new daily infection figure shows a significant surging trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 160, said the health department sources.

Among the infected patients, 24,979 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 32 new recoveries found during the time, sources said.

A total of 3,193 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for COVID-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 6,986 were kept in isolation units of hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 6,096 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 217 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 77 others were released in the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 420 including 266 in Bogura and 59 in Rajshahi with two more fatalities reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 91 were detected in Bogura, followed by 41 in Rajshahi city, 28 in Sirajganj, 19 in Natore, 17 in Pabna, three in Joypurhat and two in Naogaon districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 6,825 in Rajshahi including 5,305 in its city, 864 in Chapainawabganj, 1,748 in Naogaon, 1,356 in Natore, 1,456 in Joypurhat, 10,728 in Bogura, 3,008 in Sirajganj and 1,872 in Pabna.

A total of 67,858 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 66,129 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 6,27,676 people have been vaccinated for Covid-19 in all eight districts of Rajshahi division till Wednesday last since the countrywide vaccination programme began on February 7.

Of them, 1,443 people including 433 females were inoculated on Wednesday, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder.

He also said 400 people including 160 females received vaccines in Rajshahi, 84 including 33 females in Chapainawabganj and 65 including 17 females in Natore Wednesday.

Besides, a total of 20 persons including 10 females got vaccines in Pabna, 297 including 141 females in Sirajganj and 177 including 72 females in Bogura districts on the day, he added.
