COVID-19 cases reach 16,665 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 8, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly reached 16,665 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising quickly during the last more than three weeks.

“The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16,665 as 71 more patients were reported after testing 380 samples at the infection rate of 18.68 percent on Wednesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of total 16,665 patients stands at 4,251 in Rangpur, 812 in Panchagarh, 1,440 in Nilphamari, 992 in Lalmonirhat, 1,059 in Kurigram, 1,575 in Thakurgaon, 4,979 in Dinajpur and 1,557 in Gaibandha of the division.

Since the outbreak of pandemic, a total of 1,17,199 collected samples were tested in the division till Wednesday, and of them, 16,665 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.22 percent.

At the same time, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,730 with recovery of 23 more patients on Wednesday at the average recovery rate of 94.39 percent in the division.

The 15,730 recovered patients include 4,029 of Rangpur, 777 of Panchagarh, 1,349 of Nilphamari, 959 of Lalmonirhat, 990 of Kurigram, 1,490 of Thakurgaon, 4,675 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 318 with no more death reported from anywhere in the division on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 318 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 115 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 32 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 18 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.91 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 16,665 COVID-19 infected patients, 69 are now undergoing treatments at institutional isolation, including 11 at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,730 patients and 318 deaths while 577 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 98,515 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 94,823 released till Thursday morning in the division.

‘Meanwhile, a total of a total 5,72,692 citizens, including 3,43,683 male and 2,29,009 female, were vaccinated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccines till Wednesday in the division, Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu today urged people to genuinely abide by the health directives for containing the rising infection rate.
