Govt to procure 50,000 metric tons of non Basmati rice

DHAKA, April 7, 2021 (BSS) – The government will procure 50,000 metric tons of non Basmati boiled rice from M/S PK Agri Link Private Ltd India with around Taka 174.66 crore in a bid to meet the growing demand.

The approval came from the 14th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Cabinet Division additional secretary Dr Sahida Akhter said that the meeting approved a proposal from Petrobangla under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division for procuring 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from AOT Trading AG, Switzerland with a cost of around Taka 243.30 crore.

She said the meeting approved a proposal from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works for reevaluating the works under package no WD-01 of the project for Khulna Shipyard Road Widening and Development being implemented by the Khulna Development Authority after cancelling the recommendation by the technical evaluation committee (TEC).

Sahida said the CCGP meeting gave nod to a proposal from the Bridges Division for appointing the joint venture of Tecnica Y Proyectos SA (TYPSA), Spain, Nippon Koei Co Ltd Japan, DOHWA Engineering Com Ltd, South Korea, Development Design Consultants Ltd, Bangladesh, BCL Associates Ltd Bangladesh and Dev Consultants Ltd Bangladesh as the consultants for conducting survey and master plan with around Taka 243.19 crore for building a bridge over River Meghna on Shariutpur-Chandpur road and Gajaria-Munshiganj road.

Under one of the three separate proposals from the Roads and Highways Division approved by the CCGP, the works for package no WP-02 under the project for Shariutpur (Monohorbazar)-Ibrahimpur ferryghat Road Development was awarded to the joint venture of Reliable Builders Ltd, MD MOYENUDDIN (BASHI) Limited, Orient Trading and Builders Ltd with around Taka 103.37 crore.

The day’s meeting approved another proposal for awarding the works of package no WP-03 under the same project for Shariutpur (Monohorbazar)-Ibrahimpur Ferryghat Road Development to the joint venture of Md Badrul Iqbal Ltd, Hassan Techno Builders Ltd and Oyster Construction and Shipping Company Limited with around Taka 106.85 crore.

Besides, the CCGP meeting approved a proposal for accomplishing the works and maintenance of package no WP-03 under the project for upgrading Ashuganj River Port-Sarail-Dhorkhar-Akhaura Land Port into four-lane national highway by AFCONS INFRASTRUCTURE LIMITED, INDIA with around Taka 788.39 crore.

Prior to the CCGP meeting, the 12th meeting on Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was also held today virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The meeting approved a proposal in principle from the Ministry of Food for procuring one lakh metric tons of non Basmati boiled rice from National Federation of Farmer’s Procurement Processing and Retailing Cooperatives India Ltd (NACOF) on G to G basis under Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for emergency state purpose.

The Economic Affairs Committee meeting approved a proposal in principle from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications for allowing the SEA-ME-WE-6 consortium to follow their own procurement method on emergency state purpose under the project for establishing 3rd submarine cable by the Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited.
