No obstacle in transportation of emergency food amid pandemic: Rezaul

DHAKA, April 06, 2021 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM
Rezaul Karim today said that there is no obstruction to the
transportation of emergency food such as vegetables, fish, meat, milk
and eggs during the ongoing ban announced by the government in the
wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the current corona situation, there is no impediment to the
transportaion of emergency food during the ongoing ban announced by
the government. Vegetables, fish, meat, milk and eggs are essential
products. At the same time these are perishable products. Production,
transportation and marketing will not be hindered for such type of
products,” he said.

The minister said this while addressing a virtual meeting organized
by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock at his official residence
on Bailey Road in the capital.

He added that the ministry will take effective measures for smooth
production, transportation and marketing of the emergency food by
sending a letter to the administration and concerned departments and
agencies.

Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Raunak Mahmud,
Additional Secretaries of the Ministry Shah Md Imdadul Haque and
Shyamal Chandra Karmakar, Director General of Department of Fisheries
Kazi Shams Afroz and Department of Livestock Services Director General
Dr. Shaikh Azizur Rahman also attended the virtual meeting, among
others.

Rezaul directed the concerned divisional and district fisheries and
livestock officers to be active in making necessary coordination with
the district and upazila administration and police administration for
smooth production and transportation of food amid the pandemic.

The minister also directed the district level officials to maintain
close contact with the upazila officials and monitor their activities
in this regard.

He asked the senior officials of the Department of Fisheries and
Livestock services to take seriously the issues arising at the field
level to this end and take measures for regular strict monitoring.

In order to overcome the crisis in the fisheries and livestock
sectors, mobile sales system was introduced, control rooms were opened
and transportation barriers were removed last year, he said.

The government has also taken pragmatic steps this year to release
fish and animal foods in the ports, he said, adding that necessary
arrangements will be made for mobile sale of products produced by
marginal farmers.

Besides, a control room will be set up to deal with the ongoing
crisis situation this year, he continued.
