84 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 6, 2021 (BSS) – Eighty-four more people, the highest number in the last six months, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 84 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 22.34 percent.

Among 84 new patients diagnosed today, 46 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 46 new patients include 26 Rangpur, 15 from Gaibandha, three from Kurigram and one each from Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

On the other hand, 38 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 38 new patients include 23 from Dinajpur, eight from Nilphamari, six from Thakurgaon and one from Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:20 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,590 as 84 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of total 16,590 patients stands at 4,237 in Rangpur, 811 in Panchagarh, 1,432 in Nilphamari, 986 in Lalmonirhat, 1,054 in Kurigram, 1,564 in Thakurgaon, 4,951 in Dinajpur and 1,555 in Gaibandha of the division.
