Bus services resume tomorrow in cities amid restrictions
DHAKA, April 6, 2021 (BSS) – The government has decided to resume bus services in major city corporation areas tomorrow during the restrictions imposed to halt sharp rise of COVID-19, keeping half of their seats vacant.
The bus service will be operated from 6:00am to 6:00 pm within the city, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the announcement at a virtual press conference from his residence today.
He said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reconsidered the decision and will allow buses to ply the roads, considering the people’s sufferings due to lockdown.
The cities where bus service will resume are: Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur, Gazipur, Cumilla and Mymensingh.
However, the restriction on the long-route transports would remain in force, Quader said.
Obaidul Quader sought cooperation of the transport owners, workers and passengers to follow health guidelines to halt the spread of Covid-19.
