Measures taken to protect Boro crops from flash flood in haor areas
NETRAKONA, April 6, 2021 (BSS)–Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak today said the government has undertaken all out measures to protect standing Boro crops from flash flood in the haor areas of the country.
“The ministry at the directives of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all round preparatory measures including distribution of combined paddy harvesting machines among the farmers to save the standing Boro paddy from flash flood’s water in the country’s down-stream areas” Abdur Razzak said.
The minister said this while inaugurating a distribution function of combined paddy harvesting machines to the farmers virtually held at the hall room of Netrakona sadar upazila parishad here.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organized the function for distributing eight combined paddy harvesting machines among the local farmers under the ‘Integrated Farm Management and Agriculture Mechanization Project’ of the government.
State minister for Social Welfare and valiant freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru addressed the meeting as special guest.
Chaired by upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Masuda Akter, the function was addressed, among others, by chairman of Netrakona sadar upazila parishad Tafsiruddin Khan and deputy director of DAE, Netrakona Habibur Rahman.
The agriculture minister said the government gave subsidy to the farmers for purchasing the modern combined harvesting machines as they could harvest their hard-earned Boro paddy timely and quickly.
He also urged the farmers to abide by the health guidelines including wearing masks and using sanitizers when they will render field-level service to harvest their Boro paddy amid rising trend of COVID-19 pandemic.
