Farmers expect better Boro yield in four south-western districts

NARAIL, April 6, 2021 (BSS) – Officials and farmers are expecting better Boro yield as the plants are growing excellent now everywhere in four districts of south-western region this season.

The four districts are – Narail, Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) had set a target of cultivating Boro paddy on 2,38,290 hectares of land with a production target of 10,61,449 metric tonnes rice.

The district wise break up of Boro cultivation and production target are – 47,870 hectares of land with production target 2,06,610 metric tonnes in Narail, 57,540 hectares of land with production target 2,57,504 metric tonnes in Khulna, 80000 hectares of land with production target 3,51,200 metric tonnes in Satkhira and 52,880 hectares of land with production target 2,46,135 metric tonnes in Bagerhat.

Dipok Kumar Roy, Deputy Director of Narail DAE, said farmers have been getting fair prices of Boro paddy and rice for last couple of years.

As a result, they are showing keen interest to cultivate Boro paddy on more lands, said DAE officials.

Agriculturist Roy said Boro farming is getting brighter dimension, increasing its production day by day.

He said adequate supply of quality seed and disbursement of more incentives are being ensured with taking other effective measures to make farmers interested in farming Boro paddy.
