50 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 5, 2021 (BSS) – Fifty more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 50 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily infection rate of 13.30 percent.

Among the 50 new patients diagnosed today, 29 were reported positive after diagnosing 181 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 29 new patients include five each from Rangpur and Lalmonirhat, 10 from Gaibandha, six from Kurigram, two from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon,” Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

On the other hand, 21 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 21 new patients include 12 from Dinajpur, eight from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:30 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,501 as 50 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of total 16,501 patients stands at 4,211 in Rangpur, 808 in Panchagarh, 1,424 in Nilphamari, 985 in Lalmonirhat, 1,051 in Kurigram, 1,554 in Thakurgaon, 4,928 in Dinajpur and 1,540 in Gaibandha of the division.
