2 killed in Rajshahi road accident

RAJSHAHI, April 5, 2021 (BSS) – Two persons including a van puller were killed and two others sustained injuries when a speeding truck knocked down a van in Senbhag Bazar area on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Puthiya Upazila in the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as van-driver Shahidul Islam, 42, a resident of Sultanpur village under Natore Sadar Upazila and his co-villager and garlic trader Abdus Samad, 50.

Two passengers of the van identified as Mozammel Haque and Abul Kalam were undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

Police sources said some garlic traders of the Sultanpur village were heading towards Jhalmalia Bazar riding on the van and they fell prey to the accident when a Rajshahi-bound truck rammed the van from behind around 6.30 am.

Local people put barricades on the road for around one hour in protest of the accident. On hearing, police rushed to the place of occurrence and brought the situation under control.

Police seized the truck but its driver managed to escape.

A case was recorded with Puthiya Police Station in this connection.
