None will be spared for committing country-wide violence: Kamal

SANGSAD BHABAN, Apr 4, 2021 (BSS) – Against the backdrop of nation-wide recent series of violence committed by the religious militants marking the golden jubilee of the Independence Day, Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan today assured the parliament that none will be spared who were involved in recent violence in different parts of the country.

“We have identified all the perpetrators through the video footage …so far 22 have been arrested and none will be spared who have linkage with the anarchy,” the minister said giving the statement in the house under section 300 of the rules of procedure at the concluding session of the Jatiya Sangsad.

After the Jumah prayer on March 26, the widespread violence marking the 50-years of Independence triggered from fake rumor of attacking on devotees was committed at Baitul Mukarram national mosque and other parts of the country including Hathajari, Brahmanbaria, Narayanganj and Sylhet.

A total of 17 people so far have been killed in the violence— four Madrash students were killed when police opened fire on the agitated madrasha students who all of a sudden attacked the Hathajari police Bhaban and then they attacked the Hathajair police station on March 26. “A newly appointed police super who now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) also was injured after being beaten mercilessly by the agitated madrasha students in Hathajari on that day,” the minister told the parliament.

At the same incident in Brahmanbaria, he said another 13 people were killed by police and BGB between March 26 and March 28 as the agitated students carried out attack on different police establishments including police station, police lines and the residence of the deputy commissioner in the district.

In Brahmanbaria, the agitated students demolished and blazed different establishments including police lines, Khatihata highway police station, district council Bhaban, Shisu Academy, Gas field office, Palli Bidhut Samity in Suhilpur, Brahmanbaria Municipality office, Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital, Brahmanbaria press club, Muktijoddah complex, Shilpakala Academy, Water Development Board office, Ustab Alauudin Kha Sangeet academy, Ashuganj toll plaza, Anandomi Kali Mandir, Chatra League president and secretary’s houses and also the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 28, he said.

Regarding the violence, the home minister said “We have made all-out efforts to unearth the motive of the violence. The anti-liberation forces jointly committed this violence which would come to light after the investigation.”
