COVID-19 cases cross 16,400 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 4, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
hastily crossed the 16,400 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate
continues rising rapidly again during the last three weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases hastily rose to 16,415
as 55 more patients were reported after testing 380 samples at the daily
infection rate of 14.47 percent on Saturday in the division.

“The infection rate is showing a harshly rising trend again in Rangpur
division in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director
(Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of total 16,415 patients stands at 4,197 in
Rangpur, 808 in Panchagarh, 1,408 in Nilphamari, 978 in Lalmonirhat, 1,042 in
Kurigram, 1,551 in Thakurgaon, 4,905 in Dinajpur and 1,526 in Gaibandha of
the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,15,778 collected samples were tested in the
division till Saturday, and of them, 16,415 were found COVID-19 positive with
an average infection rate of over 14.18 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,670 with
recovery of four more patients on Saturday at the average recovery rate of
95.46 percent in the division.

“The 15,670 recovered patients include 4,012 of Rangpur, 776 of
Panchagarh, 1,341 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,487
of Thakurgaon, 4,656 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts in the
division,” Dr Siddiqui said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities rose to 318 with one more death reported from Gaibandha
on Saturday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 318 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur,
114 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 32 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 19 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,415 infected patients, 57 are undergoing treatments at
isolation units after recovery of 15,670 patients and 318 deaths while 392
remaining in home isolation across the division.

A total of 97,797 people of the division were put in quarantines since
the outbreak of the pandemic, and of them, 94,445 released till Sunday
morning in the division.

Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7
last, a total of 5,58,953 citizens, including 3,36,094 male and 2,22,859
female of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated in the
division till Saturday, Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said it
has become crucial for urged everyone to abide by the health directives to
check the rising infection rate.
