NRBC Bank steps into 9 years of its operations

DHAKA, Apr 3, 2021 (BSS) – Fourth generation NRB Commercial (NRBC) Bank completed eight years of its journey and the bank is going to step into the ninth year of its operations from April 19 this year.

The bank is now celebrating its 8th anniversary with the slogan “NRBC Banker Shopno Nabom Basorer, Unnayane Hobo Angshider Mati O Manusher”.

The non-resident bank officially started its journey on April 2 of 2013 and its commercial activities started on April 18 of that year.

Over the last eight years, the bank opened some 83 branches across the country. Firstly, the bank brought the idea of sub-branch banking for giving the priority to the needs of the people and now the fourth generation bank is the pioneer of sub-branch banking.

The bank has already opened some 423 sub-branches, which is the highest in the country’s banking sector. Besides, the bank has also opened some 589 agent banking booths.
The objective of the bank is to create employments in the rural areas through providing low-cost loans.

NRBC Bank is also the first bank to be listed with the country’s stock market in 12 years and on November 18 last year the bank got the securities regulator’s approval to raise the funds through an IPO.

NRBC Bank chairman Parvez Tomal said that all the sponsor shareholders of the bank are expatriate Bangladeshis or non- resident Bangladeshis and their main aim is to do something for creating more employment opportunities.

“We’ve been able to do that, but the COVID-19 pandemic has slightly deterred our achievements and successes.” he added.

Tomal mentioned that NRBC had enlisted it with the capital market last year despite the pandemic which was also a rare incident for a local bank enlisting with the stock market after a gap of long 12 years.

“We’re also on top of the list for opening sub branches in the rural areas while our aim in this year is to supply capital to the rural people,” he added.

NRBC bank managing director Md. Mukhter Hossain said, “In the last eight years, the bank has been operated by focusing the needs of clients and general people.”

He said that the people recognized the bank as “Human Bank” amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Mukhter said, “In the upcoming days, we will work for the development of the people and also for the welfare of the state.”
