18 more test positive for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 2, 2021 (BSS) – Eighteen more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 18 new cases were reported after diagnosing 188 samples in the division today at the daily infection rate of 8.57 percent.

All 18 new patients reported positive after diagnosing 1888 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur as no test was conducted at Rangpur Medical College today.

“The 18 new patients include 12 from Dinajpur, three from Nilphamari, two from Thakurgaon and one from Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:45 pm.

Talking to BSS tonight, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,358 as 18 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of total 16,358 patients stands at 4,185 in Rangpur, 807 in Panchagarh, 1,402 in Nilphamari, 978 in Lalmonirhat, 1,038 in Kurigram, 1,549 in Thakurgaon, 4,889 in Dinajpur and 1,510 in Gaibandha of the division.
